Of course, we'll need documented evidence that such a project met full requirements!

Very cool carnold!

I will definitely post pics when I have the full set in hand. Some of the acid dates are really tough to capture in pictures, but I will do my best.

No doubt. I started a pickled nickel album about a year ago. Many are just as you say; difficult to photograph. But all mine are CRH specimens I found, so many, many empty spots.

Has anyone else started a recovered Buffalo album before you? You may be on to something here...

Congratulations on this amazing journey...enjoyed reading your updates! I love all 10 of my buffalos, and excited to find out if my 1918 S is maybe a 1913? Who know there was an acid test out there....best said by one our members "Pickled Nickel Albums"...move over Lincoln, feed my addiction Mr. Buffalo! I have been inspired by this thread! Thank you all

For the 13-s the 3 has a flat top instead of a rounded one. So if you can see the top of the digit and it's rounded, then it's definitely not a 13.

Got my 31-S in the mail today! Was actually a nicer coin than the picture showed, so I was pretty excited about that. Just need the 21-S and the 15-S to come in the mail now and I am set!

Ok, so even though I haven't gotten the last two coins in the mail yet, I am going to go ahead and begin the part of this project that everyone has been waiting for: the pictures! I will do one year per post, and keep a running total of what I spent per coin as well. Now I will be honest, some of these acid dates are just about impossible to photograph, so you will just have to take my word on them. I had to be absolutely sure before I put it in the book. If there was any doubt, I didn't include it.

Having said that, here is my first set of pictures, the 1913 Type 1 coins. I actually got all 3 of these on the same day, in a junk buffalo bin at a flea market.

For my running price totals, some of these were bought in sets, and therefore not an even amount in cents. For those with fractional cents, I always rounded up to the nearest penny, to be sure I'm not cheating my budget. These coins cost 56.5 cents a piece, so I will call it 57 cents a piece.

Total of 1913 Type-1 Coins: $1.71
Running total for set: $1.71

Ok, now onto the 1913 Type-2 Variety. These were all 3 very exciting coins to find! The 1913 coin I actually found in the junk bin at my local flea market for 57 cents and it had a partially readable date. That was a killer find. The D and S varieties of the 13 Type-2 I acid dated in a dateless roll I got off of ebay. To get both of those in the same roll was awesome! Those ran me 76 cents a piece, not a bad deal on those two coins! Now in the 13-D picture, you can really only make out the 3 with a flat top. This is all you need to identify this coin, because 1923 was the only other year with a flat top 3, and no coins were minted in Denver that year. In the 13-S, you can clearly make out the 13.

Total of 1913 Type-2 Coins: $2.09
Running total for set: $3.80

Ok, onto the next year, 1914. For the 1914 coin, I was fortunate enough to have a CCF member give it to me for no cost to help the project. For the 1914-D I acid dated a coin I got from a junk tray and it was 38 cents. The 1914-S was one of my better finds. It was in a junk bin at an LCS I went to while I was on vacation, and it actually had a partially readable date! I got the coin for a great deal at 25 cents.

Total of 1914 Coins: $0.63
Running total for set: $4.43

I'll continue with the pics in a few days once I get the 15-S in the mail. After that, I will really try to crank the rest out quickly. Just wanted to give you guys a little taste in the mean time as I wait to get those last few coins in the mail!

Big news today, I got my 15-S in the mail! That just leaves the 21-S which should come in any day now. Given this, I can now post photo updates for 1915-1920. 1915 proved probably the toughest year for me to complete, and the most expensive. 2 of the last 6 coins I needed for this set were 15 and 15-S, and both came from ebay after extensive deal-searching. The 1915 was $1.89 on ebay. The 15-D I got for 57 cents and acid dated from a dateless lot. The 15-S, the one that completed the entire set, ran me $7.50 on ebay.

Total of 1915 Coins: $9.96
Running total for set: $14.39

Now we begin a run of years which were pretty cheap and easy to assemble, and that I got pretty early on in my run. For 1916, I got all 3 of these coins from the same lot at my local flea market, for 57 cents each.

Total of 1916 Coins: $1.71
Running total for set: $16.10

For 1917, I got all 3 of these coins from the same lot from my flea market that I got the 3 from 1916 from. Once again, all for 57 cents each. I acid dated the D and S mints for this year.

Total of 1917 Coins: $1.71
Running total for set: $17.81

So for 1918, I got the 18 and 18-D from the same lot as all of my 16 and 17 coins, again, for 57 cents each. The 18-S was given to me by the same generous member who gave me the 1914.

Cost of 1918 Coins: $1.14
Running total for set: $18.95
