I am looking at these 2 Bust Dimes for my type set. They are both priced about he same. I would crack the 1831 PCGS graded coin (VF30) from the holder if I bought that one.

Which of these 2 would you buy for a type set?

Thanks for your input.

The 1835. It's a no-brainer.

Agreed. The 1835. Color is 'right.'

And I only want one for a type.

I agree. The 1835 looks nicer. What are the grades of the two coins.
Rest in Peace

Another vote for the 1835. The 1831 looks washed out...cleaned at some point.

I hope the PCGS coin is a Details slab, because there is not a chance those surfaces are original.

Thanks everyone. You confirmed my decision. The only reason for my even considering the slabbed coin was that the VF 30 grade did not mention cleaning. The 1835 picture was not great but I liked the looks a lot more.

I know, buy the coin. not the slab('')

superdave, not graded as details. Can't trust the TPG's? It seems that a lot of TPG graded coins that I have looked at lately seem like they should be details or seem to be graded higher than what I would think. Adds to a lot of confusion for us that are still learning.

TPG's aren't infallible. Mistakes happen. Further, the quality of the imagery may be in play.

Who am I kidding? I'm just trying to be kind here.
