I just bought some 1970 mint sets that were sold as "unopened". Yes, the envelopes were sealed.

1.) Have you ever opened a mint set and both pieces of cardboard were on the same side?

2.) Have you ever opened a mint set and there was a ripped piece of cardboard used?

3.) Have you ever opened a mint set and found 2 different colors of cardboard used? (Brown and White).

Most of the cardboard pieces don't have even minor impressions of coins on them, or coin like patterns.

Are these indicators that these were searched and re-sealed with new envelopes?

Nope, nope and nope. Almost certainly inspected, if not tampered.

I have bought plenty of those sets that were never sealed, so you have to assume they were sealed after they left the mint.

Yeah the envelopes were usually not sealed by the mint. Sometimes heat the glue melted years later and self sealed them though.

I am not getting into the were they sealed debate. What I will say is if they were original not searched the cardboard inserts would be on both sides, they would not (hopefully) be tirn and should be same color. So I would say those were NOT original un opened.

I have said this before. If you do not see them come out of a sealed original shipping package, they are NOT unsearched. Sealed individual package or not.

I'm going to say that I agree with Smokeriderdon because I have often thought about that especially when I bought Prestige Sets. I say that because they are easy enough to open up and change the individual coins. So you never really know if someone is trying to pull the wool over your eyes unless they are truly careless when they tamper with the contents.
