The following is an article excerpt from Coinweek
Thomas Sparks, American Numismatic Association ( ANA) member and founder of the Short Snorter Project, will drop eight vintage blue seal U.S. $1 silver certificate Short Snorters into circulation in Portland during the 2015 National Money Show, to be held March 5-7 at the Oregon Convention Center.

Sparks will drop four Short Snorter notes into circulation on Wednesday, March 4, the day before the show opens. He will drop another four into circulation on Friday, March 6.

I'm not sure I understand the logic here. I realize Mr. Sparks is trying to bring attention to this collectible and the tradition and history that surrounds them. But unless the idea that they ultimately end up in the hands of collectors by putting them into circulation at a money show, there's the risk that these will be damaged and/or taken out of circulation by people who don't realize what they've got in their hands.

Hope springs eternal. He was hoping for both exposure on the news ("Hey, there's a money show in town") and something for the short snorter people - a story explaining what a short snorter is.

There is a nice exhibit at Portland that has been around in a couple different versions with sigs from lots of famous people. My favorite (which I think is new) was the case relating three relatively famous women[Mrs. Roosevelt was one] through notes that they signed.

There is a cool virtual museum here: http://www.shortsnorter.org/virtual...rectory.html

I agree with CelticKnot. These will probably end up being returned to the Federal Reserve by a bank for destruction.

Foolish move in my opinion.

Thanks for the explanation and link, BStrauss3. I still don't understand it, any more than I understand those folks that drop rare cents or gold coins around Christmastime. If you want to anonymously donate, just give money. If you want to raise awareness about short snorters, just mark up a few new notes with some info that advertises the coin show or a web site. It seems to me a shame to gamble and lose an artifact to ignorance (of the folks that simply don't understand what's in their hands).

I'm with jimbucks; I think it is a highly questionable move that will lead to an ironic result.

I voted for that short snorter exhibit as the People's Choice in the ANA Portland show. Lots of time and research spent on that one.
