Bought a large collection of pretty nice coins and this was in there. rev. is a typical large cent...obv. looks like a blank planchet with an inverted impression of a 1869 Shield nickel. both sides look like they were machine waffled. What do you guys think?

In my opinion it looks like Post Mint Damage. It looks like someone got a vice and pressed the two coins together and then were still bored so they decided to hack at it some more with some tool. I'd like to think it was some kid back in the 19th century just playing around with their dad's tools.

I'm not so sure this didn't start out as a genuine Mint Error which was then ill-treated because it was perceived as worthless. Wonder what the consistency of planchet thickness is.
