Little hard to tell by the small pictures, but I would think that a MS-62 or 63 would be fair. I can see a good amount of the feathers, and the stars seem a bit soft for the issue.

I'm leaning toward AU55-58. There seems to be very slight wear above the ear and on the highest breast feathers.

Susan, you have to consider that this area you mentioned is the absolute highest area of the coin. And therefor the area that is weakest struck. If you look at the neck of the Eagle where it meets the breast, you will see that this is still sharp. Also the ear is still very well defined. While I cannot guarantee it, (based on pics) I am 99% sure that this is an unc coin that just has a bit of weakness common for the date.

It isn't that we aren't trying to help, but grading based on pics is tough. There are just way too many options available. In grading Mint State coins, much of the grade depends on eye appeal, which cannot be reproduced 100% in pics. Since this coin is pretty common Ms-60 bid of $23.00 and Ms-63 bid of $34.00, it doesn't command the necessity of being seen in person. On the other hand, if this were the 1886-O where the smallest details in grade equals a monster difference in price, this coin would have to be examined in person before a grade could be assigned. However, I feel comfortable with a low unc grade based on these pics, and my experience.

Sorry it took so long. The obverse pics are blurry. I could fix some with sharpness and contrast, but not all.

For what it's worth, the uncirculated 1886's that I've had were well-struck. As you say though, ND, grading from pics is difficult at best. I can't say uncirculated with surety since the obverse pic is blurry. The reverse pic looks sharper than I thought though, so I'm closer to saying UNC.

Thank you again for everything. You all are so helpful. I would send them off for grading however I do not think anything I have is worth paying the grading fee. The Air Force does not pay me enough to afford those types of coins. I do love what coins I have though.
You all are a great resource of numismatic knowledge and I deeply appreciate all that you do in helping me.
Jack

Nice Morgan Jack. Local dealer? ebay? if it is a fave, consider an airtite or intercept shield so you can pass it on to children or grandchildren in the same shape... Thanks for the grading lesson ND and Susan.

Hello again William, I will check out the intercept shield. I purchased it on ebay. I cannot remember the exact price however I do not think I paid more than $15.00. Jack
