I live near Dallas, just out of the city but still in the country. I just renewed my love of coin collecting & hope to have a few questions for you guys more informed that I am. Glad to be here.

I moved to Round Rock TX in Jan 2016 from Australia. Love does that to you lol. I was a coin collector as a kid and then family got in the way, so to speak. Well life has changed, I moved here, married a Texan lady and then my wife and I got an early inheritance from her parents, coins that had been in the family since the early 20's. Her grandfather used to work in 'The Bank' and would exchange any Morgans and Peace dollars that came through the branch and add to his collection. Also lots of pennies etc. I then got given a lot of coins that belonged to her great Aunt, most of her collecting went through to the 60's, (latest date in rolls is 1969), a chunk of walkers, benny's and quarters, unfortunately mostly XF at best but closer to VG. I've found a few great coin communities on Fb and the learning curve has been steep but enjoyable. |

Thank you Sherman. I do have quite a few coins to say the least. I have been asked to sell them by the inlaws as the equivalent amount, after expenses etc is to be given to my wife's non coin collecting brother. I plan to keep a number of coins that I like and over time sell the rest. I've been educating myself through a few Fb collector/error groups, websites and hard copy numismatic books that have been recommended by experienced Numismatists... I was selling some coin on ebay but have resorted to going through the fb groups as I have found that, generally, I am getting a fairer price, without the added fees. |

G'day Coin Onion and welcome to the group! What part of Brisbane are you in? I was living on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, out of Maroochydore/Nambour before moving to the US. What are you collecting? Aussie. World, US or All?

Seattle Washington, USA. I started collecting back in 1969 when I was ten. Alas like a lot of kids collections my mom threw it out when I left the house. Sure wish I had some of those "hole fillers" now. So I collect circulated Wheats and Memorials, always have always will. Most people miss out on some of the best coins to collect. I want to be able to actually handle my coins. I have and will again bought slabed coins and cracked them out so I can handle them and then put them into my collection. Plus the cost for way nicer coins in BN. than RD. is unbelievable in some cases. I like Variants, die breaks, die cracks, RPM's, DDO's, DDR's, planchet errors, and I try to search at least 3 to 5 boxes of circulated Cent boxes a year. That means that I conserve about 5000 higher grade circulated NON shield cents per year. I feel that not a lot of people collect this way anymore and the hobby is loosing its roots. What happens when no one is putting away these ugly brown worthless pennies anymore?   Favorite tool: Swift Stereo Eighty. 15X & 45X microscope Edited by Reeds253

hello Coin Community. It is wonderful to read the posts here. I have not seen any of the smartmouth material as in other forums. I live in Texas. My primary interest is Kennedy halves with a few Ike dollars. The State and Park quarters are interesting and I am not afraid to read or be interested in any coin. Michael, My sister and I have been doing the same thing -- selling inherited coins on ebay. We started last summer. I don't want to go off-topic but I'd like to hear about the FB groups you've been using. The ebay fees and generally low sale prices are killing us. In some cases we're better off selling to a local wholesaler, which I hate to do. Unfortunately (as far as I know) this forum does not have private messenging, and most members (including myself) have email disabled. I could temporarily enable email if you don't mind contacting me that way. I'd mention the name of our ebay store but I'm afraid that may be against the forum rules. Sherman |

Hi Michael,
Well I made a valiant effort.
I saw that you had email enabled, and I was able to compose an email but when I sent it (or attempted to) I got a message saying that "new" members cannot use email.
I hate to keep posting about this here but there seems to be no alternative.
In a nutshell, I am wondering which FB groups you use to sell your coins?

I had a browse through the rules and think it is ok to give the name of the main fb group that I move my coins through. 'Coin Opp Sales and Trades Only' You can look me up also and I can give you assistance if needs be my friend.

I am from the City by the Bay, San Francisco, Ca. I am a native of the city as I have lived here 48 years. My profession is with our County Sheriff's Department and my coin collecting is still by far on a Novice level as I have only been collecting for about eight years. I actually only started collecting coins because of an experience at a bank. I purchased a few rolls of pennies for my kid nephew who was just learning how to count. I was opening the rolls a putting them in a jar when I noticed one roll was all Wheat pennies I had never seen one before if I did I probably just discounted it as just being a older version of what we normally see. So I Googled some of the dates nothing spectacular $3.00-$12.00 Then I Google a 1909-S that was in the roll, and that's all it took.....I have been coin roll hunting ever since Never was I able to get another 1909-S again, but I did come across something that I need some input/advice from fellow collectors. I recently opened a roll of pennies and they were all 1980's pennies which I thought was odd.So I find two (2) pennies dated 1982-D from Denver but I cant tell if they are the Large Date which I guess is common or if they are the Small Date variety which I understand is pretty Rare. So this is why I have finally joined Coin Community.  |

G'day Earl and welcome to CoinC0mmunity. The easiest way, that works for me with the large and small date '82's is the shape of the longer down sweeping part o of the 2, as per the picture below. Hope that helps you mate.  |
