I'm new. I'm not sure if this coin is worth sending in. I'm worried that it has been cleaned or is not worth anything above melt. Can anyone shed some light on this coin?

It doesn't look like it has been cleaned. The toning makes it hard to tell what the surfaces are like. But since an 81o doesn't need a huge grade to make it worthwhile it might be worth a shot. If you have a good coin shop nearby you might ask them to take a look. Nothing like an actual look see (as opposed to a virtual one) to tell what the surfaces are really like.

It probably wouldn't be worth sending in.
An 1881-O like yours is selling for around $35 on ebay now. Also, it would cost about $28 to have it sent in and professionally graded.

I'd say not.

If it was mine and I was selling, I would consider all of the costs to get it slabbed before proceeding.
I would not be motivated enough to get it slabbed, if I decided to keep it.

A pcgs ms63 goes for about $70, so that is your break even point. Ms64 or better you make some money. You need to have an experienced grader look at it to see if it has some potential, or better yet develop your own experience by looking at a lot of coins. Let us know what you decide.

Nope. Put it in a nice capsule and enjoy it. My 1881-O is a raw AU one.
