1881 Morgan Silver Dollar Worth Sending In For Grading?

marcmnich New Member United States 1 Posts	Posted 03/06/2015 11:49 pm I'm new. I'm not sure if this coin is worth sending in. I'm worried that it has been cleaned or is not worth anything above melt. Can anyone shed some light on this coin? Report this Post to the Staff

valleyco Valued Member 109 Posts	Posted 03/07/2015 12:05 am It doesn't look like it has been cleaned. The toning makes it hard to tell what the surfaces are like. But since an 81o doesn't need a huge grade to make it worthwhile it might be worth a shot. If you have a good coin shop nearby you might ask them to take a look. Nothing like an actual look see (as opposed to a virtual one) to tell what the surfaces are really like. Report this Post to the Staff

valleyco Valued Member 109 Posts	Posted 03/07/2015 09:03 am A pcgs ms63 goes for about $70, so that is your break even point. Ms64 or better you make some money. You need to have an experienced grader look at it to see if it has some potential, or better yet develop your own experience by looking at a lot of coins. Let us know what you decide.
