I had my eye on this 1921P at my LCS as I like getting the coin in hand to look at and no funny business with the date.. I ended up doing some trading around to get it and it's a key date for my Mercury collection ..

I am thinking it's VG 10 .. and may someday I can step up to a XF 35-40

May have been lightly cleaned, but I'd be more generous with the grade. Vertical detail in the fasces and some hair and wing detail could justify a F12 grade. The reverse looks nice, but the obverse seems to show multiple parallel hairlines which make me wonder about the cleaning. Perhaps those hairlines are on the holder not the coin. All that aside, it is a better than average 1921, so congrats on the purchase.

For someone like yourself who obviously already knows how to recognize hairlining, you can discount what you see here somewhat. Coins this circulated under sharp digital photography often show something similar. Deliberate brushing on a coin this small would be exacerbated.
