And by the looks of it you'll get it for $5 less than when it was issued in April. I am tempted to pick up 1, but it's likely these are returns. The secondary market is FLOODED though with this coin and if gold drops further, you may be able to buy this for $150 in the not too distant future. Until a few days ago there were PCGS 70 graded Mercury dimes available for $252.50 as part of an ebay deal if I remember correctly. Go figure...

muddler, read the email again. It doesn't say that they're being reissued. My guess is that they're reopening sales because of returns, probably from speculators.

Well, the mint only accepts returns in the first week after delivery so while there were surely some returns for quality issues, there were some 900 or so coins (based on the initial sales figures and the 125,000 mintage limit) that were never sold. Orders were coming in so fast that the mint may have shut down sales a little too quickly or may have been holding some for a possible three coin set that never happened. In any case, I will try my best to get one since I literally slept through the first sale.

Well, that improves my chances of getting one this time if I get up on time. I am putting a sticky note on my computer so I remember to jump on it.

I thought it was going on sale at 12pm. You better get on up there Clair! I will be at my computer ready to but that little. We will have to wait ten years to see if buying these gold coins works out for us.

Fortunately, the mint properly refers to 12:00 as 12 noon (12 is neither AM or PM since it is on the meridian, therefore it is either noon or midnight). Of course for me that is 09:00 (9 AM) and for an old guy with nowhere that I have to go, I have a habit of staying up until 2 or 3 AM. Fortunately I only sleep 5 or 6 hours at a time but I will turn in early tonight just to be sure that I am up and ready to click as soon as sales open.

If gold stays below $1,150/oz until next Wed then prices for these will drop as follows: Mercury dime - from $200 to $195 Standing Liberty - from $447.50 to $435 Walking Liberty - from $840 to $815 For the last two coins that would mean a reduction of $50 per coin since they were issued, and we may not have seen the worst yet. Although it is likely they will sell out before further significant drops in gold. I'm not sure it's worth risking to wait another week for the Mercury dime to drop another $5, esp. since they still sell raw for up to $290 (I have to correct myself from my post above - and gladly do it!). Interesting really... What will the future bring for these three coins?

Unfortunately, the dip happened too late for the mint to drop prices this week.
