Here is what you do to work with a Bank:

1.Call the 1-800 numbers for banks
2.Ask to talk with a Manger first thing
3.When you get a Manger, ask point blank what are the Rules and Fees for ordering bank boxes, ask what the rules for returning the bank boxes are. This is the best way to know all what the Bank will do and will not do.

*Tellers know nothing 9 0ut of 10 times.

This is what I do for Free Cent Bank Boxes:

With a $100 to $1000 I go into banks in different towns around me or city's.
I point blank ask for $25 or $50 dollars in Cents and I leave with or without the Cents.

I then search
Then go to a Coins Star and dump the Cents for 8% to 10%

With 2500 Cents I find my Doubled Dies/RPM's over 10-20 along with any Major Cents Errors etc. Along with Some Copper for me.

I pick on the West Coast in D-Mint Land I can make it happen. I know in P-Mint Land anyone with some knowledge about Errors and Variety Cents can make it happen. Using Coinstar and walk away with a profit.

Why Coinstar for me:

Its on my time and without a frowning teller for $2.50 or under. I will pay Coinstar's not to see tellers a few times a week and on my time to dump my Cents.

Coinstar Dumping only pays off for Cents-Does Not Pay Off For Nickels/Dimes/Quarters/Halves.

For Nickels/Dimes/Quarters/Havles:

Work with the Bank or Banks. You will have to. Have a Fetch Bank and Dump Bank then you will be Free or Lower your cost for Nickels/Dimes/Quarters/Halves.

Let me know if I have helped you in the Thread here if you would.

Silverworld, I don't understand why first you say you will pay a coinstar a fee to dump and avoid tellers, then say to "work with your bank". Makes no sense.

You aren't giving tellers much credit, they can be very helpful. I usually go right to the vault teller and skip management entirely.

Makes sense. Nobody is going to get Nickels to Halves on a regular flow if they do not work with the Bank.

I am not here to be cheerleader for tellers. They do what they are told. They are not to be worked with when starting a account to get info on Bank Rules.

The reason I go to the vault teller first, is because that I've found over the years that management usually has no clue on coin handling policy. Many times there is no (crh'ing) policy, and management will give a "no" in response to any questions they are unsure of. The vault teller handles the coin, if anyone at the bank knows the coin policy, it's the vault teller.

This is as easy as calling a 1-800 number for the bank manager for bank rules. This is the best all around way to get the info right before Working With A Branch or Branch Hopping. Hands down.

I am not going to tell folks to go to a Branch to find out what the rules are its wrong and not a 100% way to get the Rules, last time, fistfulladirt

Fistfulladirt you argue everything I post on this site, its unreal. Its uncalled for stop it. Its scary.

I've found that it's important to probe several banks to gauge which teller(s) is going to seem helpful. It's funny to me that I can go into my closest bank and talk to 3 different tellers all of which will tell me (after looking at me like I have a third eye) "No, we don't have any .... unopened boxes of pennies ...." but when I go to the same bank and there's one particular teller there she always has pennies for me, no matter how many boxes I may ask for. Recently, that teller has gotten a box of chocolates who seems to be pretty thrilled with >ME< now and the last time I asked for pennies said "Would you like newer or older pennies?"

I'm like you though, I don't bother dropping pennies off at the teller and I just go to local areas and pay the nine percent coinstar fee. I roll halves myself...I don't want to lose that kind of money to coinstar :P

If you could post the super duper secret password to get banks to order large dollars, I'd be most grateful, thanks!

Otherwise, I hate dealing with management. Any type of management. The head teller is where I go, and it works out great with my bank. Don't have enough free time at the moment for multiple banks.

First of all find a bank that has a coin machine and better yet find one that does it for free. Have a savings account there and when you cash in your coins deposit all of part of what you dump in coins. I've found a Savings and Loan that does just that and it works fine for me. Now I don't do it at this bank but at others I deal with I will usually ask the tellers if they have any junk (halves, dollar coins) they wish to get rid of. They are usually extremely happy and will remember you for that and will actually save things for you knowing that your a collector. That is what I do. Oh yes with the bank that I dump my coins I have at times dumped over $2500 many times.

To new coin searchers first thing first the best way to have a easy time and endless supply of Cents thur Half Dollars from Bank Branches is to talk with a Bank Manger.

Trust me any other way to start getting coinage can have unwanted/unneeded problems, get the Bank Rules from the 1-800 Manger. Most banks when you and they understand when and how much you want in the way of coins you will then work with Vault Teller or Reg Teller.

Lets not make this any harder then it is. Mangers by way of Bank Branch 1-800 will do everything to set you strait with the Bank Rules and how your Local Branch wants to handle the pick ups and drop offs.
