Hi all, I am curious if I have a proof on my hands. Coin doesn't seemed to have been polished nor mishandled. Would probably grade 67 if I sent it in. It also has a blue tinted edge on face and around parts of rim from toning. Now correct me if I'mwrong, but I read that blue gray toning is common on buffalo proof coins. Please help me figure this out so I can get It graded.

the other coin in the pictures is a ms65 1938 d/d nickel. Its for comparison of how shiny the '37 is.

Hi, First off, we will need better pictures to make a fair assessment. Are you taking these images through a mirror? I dont think many of us here are used to looking at reverse images. Please take the coin out of the holder and try to get better pictures. Be careful though and wear gloves. Second, Many Buffalo nickels have been plated and used in jewelry. I'mnot saying that is what happened here, but with the pictures provided, I cannot rule that out. Third.....I hope you have a proof! It would be a really cool coin. There are plenty of them out there and for one to show up in an old 2x2 would not be unheard of.

Quoting David W. Lange, via David Lawrence: Quote: As with 1936 proofs, beware of well struck currency pieces that have been polished to simulate proof brilliance. These will be lacking the high point detail and broad, flat rims typical of proofs. The widespread use of third-party certification services has largely eliminated this evil, but caution is still advised when purchasing uncertified or "raw" proofs.

Just a guess but maybe the coin was polished. Does the edge of the coin show the same type of mirror finish?
Edit: I'm to slow today...must be from the time change

Where did you get the coin? It looks like it COULD be a proof but it is really, really hard to tell.

got the coin off of lost Dutchman coin shop. They go through thousands of coins a day and this was in a huge tub of 5$ coins. So either way if its not a proof its defiantly ms65 or up.

Well, so far every image you've posted is backwards. If that's the direction the features actually point, it isn't real.

I think the pics are backwards because of the device the op is using, I have the same problem.
Feel free to call me Will.
