I was looking at IGWT on this 1974 Jefferson and it seemed thicker and perhaps some rotation most noticeable in the D in GOD? I looked at the listing at CONECA and they have one listed, but without pictures for confirmation (or markers), I'm not certain what I have here and hoping for a little help.

GOD (DDO? - Normal)

Hard to say on these kinds of coins where the doubling is so so so minor. Maybe, or maybe a normal coin, I am having a tough time! Lol!

Hi Kid - indeed that is the problem. I only looked at this particular nickel because it was in decent condition where the finer details are still visible. I tried a different angle; maybe better lighting/detail.

I see something on the D but I think it would be odd for a DDO to be only in that one tiny area.

Hi John - I think I see it throughout the IGWT, but I can almost make out a knit-line on the D (although I might be 'seeing' what I need to see). If you look at the full obverses of both coins, the normal coin looks sharper on the devices while the DDO? appears fatter, rounder. I tried to use a comparative coin of the same die state, but I'm hoping that I'm not just seeing something that isn't there. It presents a good challenge, so I was hoping to attract you, Coop and others who have more experience with these 'oddball' DD specimens and the opportunity to learn something.

Thanks for having a look!

Looks like a normal coin from what I can see. Here is a DDO that shows the doubling on the bottoms of the devices:

I'm just not seeing the spread on this coin. sorry

Hi Coop - I was thinking more Class V doubling (maybe IV?) as the devices seem puffier widthwise rather than taller. I'm satisfied if you are that this is a normal coin but I thought I'd put it up for debate. These are the times I wish I had pictures of a minor doubling event along with known markers. Makes me appreciate Coppercoins even more!

Thanks for having a look!

PS - here's the CONECA listing: MD-1-O-VI (P, D, PR)

I guess Class V is out of the question, as they are listing Class VI. Does that help any or confuses the question?
