I splurged and ordered a BU fractional set of the very low mintage 1998 (6,400 each)silver Mexican Libertads from a seller in Germany. While inspecting the coins, I see heavy clashing on the smallest coin, the 1/20th Oz. While not a big deal, it was fun to try and shoot the areas clashed. Maybe Coop will do one of his cool overlays.
I'm totally hooked on Libertads now, due to being made from the oldest Mint in the Western Hemisphere(Casa de Moneda de Mexico...Est. 1535), stunning design and artwork, and, incredible low mintage figures for BU & Proof coins since inception in 1982. I am in the middle of making a complete Lowest Mintage set for both BU and Proof coins, in all 5 sizes(1/20, 1/10, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, & 5 Oz), and, will make a top 5-5 Oz lowest mintage set too. My BIG splurge was a Proof 2014 Gold 1 Oz..(Mintage 250 coins!) And, I couldn't help getting a 2014 Proof KILO "coin",(only 400 made) soon to arrive, with cedar box & COA, and, a 2014 "Magnificent Seven" boxed Proof set, all 7 coins, and only 250 sets made, with COA.
Pretty much stopped Modern 5 Oz America The Beautiful collecting, when I started reading about these Libertads, and the mintage figures. I also got the rare first year Proof 1 Oz Libertad, in a complete 1982-83 sealed boxed Proof set, (only 998 made, and, probably less than 150 intact, not ripped apart for grading or individual sales.)
When you compare USA, Canadian, or other world mint mintage figures, heavily into the MILLIONS, and, hold in your hand a coin that's 1 of 800 or less, it's pretty fun. I have a funny feeling I'm not the only coin collector discovering this exciting series, and, with the 2014 Proof mintages at an extreme LOW, these surely have nowhere to go, but UP in value over the years.
