Okay, so this may be a dumb question. I couldn't find it through a search. Is there a way to tell if Loomis rolls are all the same year? I bought my first box of pennies, and nickles today. All but 3 of the pennies have 2014 coins at both ends. Is there an easy way to tell if they're all 2014? The nickles look promising though.

If there is also a very very shiny penny on the end, then probably, I would break them open just to make sure though.

As a cashier I often get machine rolled coins like this. However sometimes they aren't all brand new. I recommend checking at least a couple of rolls to see if that is the case.

It can be kind of tough. I had a nickel one too one time. The curiosity was killing me and I opened it. They all were same year.

You might want to just check one of them and see. If you don't have a problem with putting them in coin tubes or anything, then crack them all. Just keep in mind that you can't put them back in those original rolls, so I tend to just keep them in the rolls. If you ever sell them and the person opens them and they are circulated inside, it is an honest mistake.

You can always weigh the roll also to see if weight matches up with what the zincs should be. If they are uncirculated, they should not fluctuate from the 2.5 grams (factor in the paper roll for a small amount).

So I went with weighing them. My scale won't do half a gram. One roll weighs 125-6 grams on my scale, this applied to all but one. One that weighed 127, It had one 1975 D. The other three yielded only a couple of 90's and early 00's. Looks like the penny box is a bust. Thanks for the help.

Glad I could help, even if nothin' came of it. Keep on looking. I find them every once in a while. I don't think I've ever come across the Loomis rolls. You will kind of get to know the brands, I guess. Some you can usually tell if it's uncirculated. Typically, if both ends show coins that have clearly never circulated, they are probably an uncirculated roll.

You can never tell 100%. Just make your best guess. The scale can always give you a little ease of mind if they are around 125 grams. Good luck on future boxes!
