Zincs don't have laminations. Probably just part of the clash. Very very nice find though!!

Hi Child - you are probably right. I was actually a little disappointed with the pictures at MADDIE for the specimen I was checking for alignment. I'm hoping with the coin in hand J could do the best investigation.
Still a cool coin - lots going on!!

Taking a close look at tdc-1c-1997-01, I do not think it is a match. The reverse looks more rotated to me, however, this is my first attempt at identifying these. After saying that, am I missing something at maddieclashes or is there only one listing for the 1997P?

Hi J - what I find easiest is to use the Search tool at the site. Type in 1997 and it'll return everything it has for the date; US or Foreign. Then click on the links to see if you can spot your coin. I did that and this was the closest I could find. But try it anyway - you never know what I might have missed! Good luck!

Here are a couple more pics. This appears to be another clash but it doesn't seem to match the bridge of the nose. The area circled here and the half of bay 9, all of 10 and 11 look polished (along with part of bay 2 and 3).

Indeed it could be. I've found some that are very close to ones listed but just slightly different. If you get some nice shots of the clash, you may want to send it into BJ at MADDIE via the contact radio button. They may post your specimen as another 1997 clash.

Notice the rotation of the die clash. They sometimes turn when a clash happens and the overlays are set for a normal clash. So the brow and the base on the obverse image is angled. Not straight up.
The areas that are dark in the last bays and under the right base, are cause from polishing that makes them very polished. Sometimes they are shiny like a proof die, but just in certain areas. The polishing really die the job in that area.

Here is a little better pic, shows the clash better than my earlier pic. Any thoughts on the last column?
