the pic of the 67 SMS cent don't show all the proof like shine on it. if your coin looks like the coin on the right I would take a guess and say it is not a SMS cent. that coin looks just like a proof coin but it don't show on the pic.

(This refers to the 1965 -67 SMS) I find that the "proof like shine" normally only comes on the top quality coins from early die states. The typical SMS coin just looks like a high quality business strike. Conversely high quality business strikes look like average SMS coins. Add to the problem the fact that the mint used retired SMS dies to strike business strikes and there really is no definitive way to tell them apart. Even the grading services can't do it. Coins slabbed one way, if cracked and resubmitted will often change designation.

I haven't really gotten into Lincoln's yet and would like to know what SMS stands for. I've seen it used but haven't asked what it stands for. From the posts I can tell what it means but would like something a bit more specific. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
