I've posted this before, I don't know if it was in this forum or another one, but I tracked down the funding bill that contained the amendment forbidding the mint from spending any money to create dollar coins with lettered edges, and found that that amendment has been struck from the legislation. I even posted the links to the legislation on
https://www.thomas.gov where it listed it as having been struck from the bill.
So we will see edge letters next year at least.
As an aside the amemdment did NOT remove the lettering from the edge, it just forbid the production of the coins if they HAD lettered edges.
