Is that a real or fake PCGS holder? I am not familiar with that design so I am curious if it's real or not. Thanks!

I don't know any better than you do, but I agree that something looks a little wierd to me as well. I don't recall ever seeing a holder that looks like that. Maybe you could check the seller's item history and see if he sells a lot of these holders and if there are any complaints about him.

That is one of their really old holders and that might be the variety that is referred to as a "rattler" holder so-named because the coin rattles a bit in the slab. I just looked up the cert# and it is genuine at least. Conder101 would be able to give you an exact generation of this slab.

I think it's fake. The old green labels I have, the 0 doesn't have a line thru it. Also the "M" in MS doesn't look right either

I don't have an old holder in front of me but it looks o.k. The numbers check out:

I think I would let this one go at this point. The current bid is too high for me.

Yeah, it's real. People tend to overbid on the old holders thinking they can crack it out and get it bumped higher. Doesn't look too much like a candidate for MS-67 to me. The last PCGS MS-66RD on Teletrade went for $240.

I agree I think this slab is real and I also agree that people usually think all green labels mean automatic upgrade which just isn't the case but people bid crazy money for them anyway only to crack them out and get the new label with the same grade on most of the coins

I'm with those that think it's real. If the pictures are accurate the coin is certainly worthy of the grade. Man, that's nice. And on the plus side it IS in the older holder and the coin hasn't started to brown.

Too many slabbed "red" coins start to brown. IMO it's because it was slabbed contaminated with oil from fingers, or some other contaminant. With newly slabbed red copper you never know what you'll end up with.

So far it's $100 more than I paid for mine. :)

Yes, but man that's a nice example. IMO he got what he paid for. That's definitely PQ. Check out other slabbed 66 Reds, and how much brown is actually in a "red" coin. Just for the heck of it, I'd send it in on the tiny chance it gets an upgrade to 67.
