OK, I went through the long list of DDRs for the date, most of which apply to Proof coins. However, none of the business strike listings seem to fit. DDR-80 seems to be the closest, but it doesn't fit either.

EPU - Tripling through PLURIBUS UNUM most noticeable in the upper serifs but also apparent inside the P and B.

MONTICELLO - nothing that I can tell

FIVE CENTS - nothing again, but perhaps in the N there is doubling

USA - Doubling throughout and stronger as you move to the right (AMERICA)

Thank you in advance!!

Hi John - indeed. I tried searching for "triple" through all the date listings and while there are a few, they are mostly for Proof coins. DDR-080 was close but involves devices that aren't affected on my coin. I know that there are other resources available for IDing a Jefferson nickel so I'm hoping someone can shed some light.

Rackster:

The DDR 080 is from the Coneca Variety-Vista site?

Try this site, from Wexlers Jefferson nickels Doubled Dies.

Hi guys. 80 is the closest but I may have a new variety given I don't have the doubling going on with the MONTICELLO and differences where the tripling starts and stops as well as starts and stops for the doubling. I'd feel more comfortable saying this with pictures and markers though. Thanks for the input and research!

It is a doubled die, but nothing tells me that it is that number. The descriptions make it hard to tell which one. Images are better. So I'm not sure what number it is. Having the coin in hand you might want to check the listings for brianvarieties first. You might see a match up for an obscure marker there easier because of having images.

Thanks Coop - I even compared it to some of the proof listings but none of them fit either. So it remains unidentified in a flip for now.

Proof dies and business strike are usually always different totally. (Some of the type "B" proof quarter reverses were used on the 1956-1964 quarters.)

Understood - when I couldn't ID the nickel with the business strike listings I gave the proof listings a look even though the nickel doesn't look like an impaired proof. There were only a few listings that had tripling and most of those were for proofs. The 80 listing was the closest to what I have, but the center most details look normal. Just the EPU and USA showing the tripling/doubling.
