With out trying to offend anyone, I offer the following opinion. A lot of low denomination Asian coins seem to be very boring pictorially. Rarely is any attempt made to produce any 3D image. I think the word I would use to describe them is 'featureless'. Anybody feel the same or am I a 'one off'. regards,

G'day, I don't agree that low denomination coins of Asia are less spectacular than low denomination coins from elsewhere. For "simplicity" (~featurelessness), it'd be hard to beat the Euro-currency.
Many of the PRC coins feature Tian-An-Men (eg. Coin b, above), which is the main feature of the national coat of arms. As it stands today, the building, Tian-An-Men, has a large coat of arms on it. So looking at the Coat of arms, on a coin or elsewhere, always make me have a giggle: very Alice-through-the-looking-glass. Not many other coins make me so mirthful.

Very nice circulated Chinese currency, what would these be worth at face value converted to USD?

I suppose when you have a large population like China you need to keep the coinage simple.
Still a nice collection you now have Mila

It's a pity that there's no English language printed on PR China's coins and paper money

5 yuan (RMB or CNY, China's Dollar) Exchange rate: 7.5 yuan : 1 USD The reverse of 5 yuan money is Taishan (Mountain Tai), Shandong Province To many Chinese people, Mountain Tai has some unique traditional meanings. In the history, when a new unified dynasty was founded, or a golden age of the Dynasty came, Chinese emperor would like to hold a mystic ceremony named "Fengshan" on Mountain Tai, to show his power and achievement to God and all over the world. It's said that the tradition of "Fengshan" on Mountain Tai derived from Qin Shi Huang (259-210 B.C.) or ¡°First Emperor of Qin¡±. As we konw, Qin Shi Huang was the owner of the Terra Cotta Warriors, which is located in Xi'an, famous ancient capital of China.
