Hi,

I am a new member here. Just recently I got started in collecting coins from the Republic of China and modern Taiwan coins ever since coming back from Taiwan. Some of my family members gave me some of their coins and currencies they had over the years. The focus of my collection are US coins, but I am also starting to collect foreign silver coins also.

Anyways, I was wondering about the 10 cash, 25th year of the Republic coin that has, I think, a mint mark on the reverse that says "ping." I myself, sadly, don't know Chinese (although I am Chinese, my parents didn't have time to teach me how to read or write it). Anybody have pictures of real ones or know more about it? Heck, I am not sure if they are even rare. I saw a few on ebay and I am interested in one. I know buying from China is a big risk. Not sure if the Chinese are making the rare fake copper coins now. I have one that I got off ebay, but it does not have a character under the spade. I couldn't find anymore information online, so I am hoping that this forum will help...

Thanks

All I know about them is they're listed in the Krause world coin catalogue under the "patterns", listed as number Pn156. There are actually two varieties of this listed, PnA156 with "P'ing lower" (whatever that means) and PnB156 with "P'ing under spade". No pictures given, and the value column is left blank - meaning either "we don't know" or "so rare we've never heard of one being sold". There are also patterns with "Ch'ing" marks (PnC156 and PnD156).

There are, of course, "normal" 1 cent coins dated Year 25 (1936), presumably with neither mark, listed as KM/Y# 347.

Zeno.ru is normally the best place to go for pics of particular types of Asian and Islamic coins, but I can't find it listed there anywhere.

Would the fakemasters over in China copy these obscure patterns? Sure, why not? They've copied just about everything else, and if I understand correctly, it's perfectly legal over there to make fake coins, so long as they're not PRC issues.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
