Hi all, I'm new to this hobby.

On average how many bills does it take to find an error? 1 in 1,000, 10,000 More? Obviously errors are rare and I don't expect to find one on the first bank strap. However, it would be nice to start with some kind of estimate.

to the CCF.

I really have no idea how many notes you'd have to look through to find an error. I imagine it would be quite a few since the BEP has improved its methods for removing sheets and bills with errors.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable and experienced will be able to chime in with a better answer.

I would say much higher. I collect nickels from the wild and after 40,000 nickels I found one major error. The odds to find it was like 1 a few millions nickels. I assume bills would be similar.

I regularly search 1 dollar straps. Have went through an easy 25,000 dollars worth. No errors. Then again you could get one strap of (100) 1 dollar bills and find one.

From my knowledge, it depends on what you mean by error. Bills with printing errors (missing features, improperly cut etc) are extremely rare in modern bills. However, there is a famous error in the $100 from when they first redesigned it--the watermark was put in upside down on a significant percentage of the bills. Likewise, the new $100 bills were so frequently misprinted that it took years to get the series out the door.

But as others have said, the quality control at the BEP is world-class. I worked as a cashier for the better part of 4 years, and I found plenty of star notes, but not a single error note.
