I would check some Heritage auctions also to get a feel of worth. Check completed auctions on ebay also. Or if you want some really nice ones-

I look at real world sales on Teletrade and Heritage.

The last Proof 64 (NGC holder) to sell on Teletrade went for $575.

Can't imagine prices have doubled since then or that the old PCGS holder is worth that much, but I'm not in the market for these, so I wouldn't presume to tell you not to buy something. It's good that you want to do research.

I can check teletrade and ebay for completed sales. Sometimes on ebay I learned peaple just ask prices that are to expensive. I will pass on that 1911 matte proof on ebay since I think its overpriced big time.

Thanks for links and stuff.

Brian Wagner has some nice matte proofs and would be an excellant choice for someone to talk to about those types of proofs.

First off it's your money and you spend it the way you want but I certainly don't know how in the world that 1911 matte is "overpriced big time." The mintage of that coin is 1733 and the total population report for NGC and PCGS is 505. Try buying another coin of that mintage for around a thousand bucks.

The 1911 on E-bay is now over a thousand and David Lawrence has one in his auction at $900 plus 15% juice.

In my opinion, the TPGs are asleep at the wheel when it come to pricing these beauties.

Wanna do a little test? Ask anyone who collects matte Lincoln if they have any for sale at PCGS prices. If anyone here has a matte VDB that thay are willing to sell at TPG price guide, send me a pm, we need to talk.

I the interest of fairness, I have a complete set and I wouldn't sell mine for double the PCGS price guide and I doubt that anyone else will either.
