I agree with Bryan. He can find out what the Stone Mtn. commemorative is but not if that's a real dollar or not? $283, what am I missing.

It looks like a hardtimes token ,, I cannot say if it is one of the rare ones I do not have much references for them ,,
apparently some of the bidders knew .

Ahaaa! Good one Metalman, I didn't even think of that.
Speaking of which, where are they listed anyway? Do they have their own dedicated reference?

Im going to have to retract that this could be a hardtimes token and make it a private store issue of some kind .
Im sure there are reference guides for them ,,but the best I can do is an internet search .

I have one of these though in much more worn than this. I doubt its a hard times token as it measures about 13mm. I had my local dealer look at it some time ago and he called it a "territorial gold" piece, though I have heard since that if it were it should have more markings on it. I'll have to take it to my jeweler and have him weigh it and test it (the grade is so low that a little rub off the edge can't hurt it). If I find out anything I post the results.

I agree. I'm sure not all are there, but the RedBook does contain a good variety of the territorial gold, and most I though have a letter denomination as well as the number. i.e., 1 dollar, not just 1. Although I don't have my RedBook with me right now to confirm. I wish we could ask the buyer what it was, because apparently it was worth quite a bit....

Does not look like gold. Probably a Civil War token of sorts. the 1 = 1 cent.

What it is is a very bad counterfeit that has had the gold plating worn off.
