Are older albums made using pvc or anything else harmful? Are they safe for storing coins? I have some whitman albums from the 60s and was curious. When did people and companies realize that they should use inert materials?
Welcome to the forum garfield. I don't know the answer to your question as fact per say. But I do know there are some long time collectors here, 40+ years, that have their coins in albums and have had no issue. I think the biggest thing is what else is in the environment besides the coins and the album. Humidity, gasses, sunlight, etc, I think all affect the coins. Proper storage of the albums is key. I think some put their completed albums in zip lock bags and just press the air out of them.
I would have to surmise that regardless of the age of the Whitman album, the album itself should be ok. Again, I have no experiance personally with these over time, but someone will.
"just carl" should chime in at some point as I think he has ohhh, maybe a thousand of them.
