I recently came across 3 $20 US Notes while cleaning out an old family house.

I have never seen this type of $20 note before, but there are 3 bills of year (2) 1910 and 1905.

They are larger than todays sized bills and have a picture of Hugh Mc Culloch on the face and some sort of woman (with exposed breast and torch) along with a picture of a building (US Treasury ?) on the back.

Also on the face is what appears to be an issuing bank.

The bills are in what I consider great shape, the color is good, no rips at all, and only tiny folds on the edges.

Does anyone out there have any idea of these bills potential value? or where I could find out more about them in general?

Thanks in advance.

Your best bet with value would be posting some pictures up here. Your best bet on here would be posting the question here: http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...p?FORUM_ID=8

Good luck!
Rest in Peace

I am familiar with the notes. They are valuable but I need a lot more information and pictures to determine grade. On the reverse the Capital building is depicted as well as Columbia. The series of 1902, dated 1905 has no date range on the reverse. The second issue of 1902 dated 1910 has the date range 1902-1908 printed on the reverse. I need the signature combinations as well. The one dated 1905 in VG8 starts at about $800.00 and goes up to as much as $4500.00 in Unc-63 condition. The ones dated 1910 go from about $200.00 in VG8 to around $800.00 in Unc-63 condition. Pictures and signatures are really needed here! I Hope this helps. By the way, Hugh McCulloch was the Treasury Secretary from 1865-69 and again from 1884-85. I love "Horse Blankets" and these notes are very cool indeed! Mike

These sound like National Bank Notes. They were issued in three series: The first series was issued from 1902-1908. The seal on the front of these would be red. These are apparently quite scarce. My ten year old Friedman guide said they were worth from $400-550 in VF condition, back in 1998.

The second series was issued from 1908-1916. This series had a blue seal, and will have the dates "1902-1908" on the reverse of the note near the center. Most of the notes in the second series listed at $85 in VF condition. The Napier-Thompson signature combination listed at $125 in VF, while the Teehee-Burke listed at $175 in VF. Again, these values are from 1998.

The third series was issued from 1916-1929. These have the blue seal on the front, but do NOT have the dates "1902-1908" on the reverse. Most of the third series notes listed at $80 in VF condition, except the Napier-Thompson which listed at $150in VF, and three different signature combinations signed by Wood listed for $250, $500, and "rare" in VF.

Since the guide book is ten years old, you can add at least 50% to each value, probably more like 100%, or even more to each of the values!
