If albums are your choice for storage and match your collecting style then I see nothing wrong with it ,, I cut or crack many sets each year .

I have done as metalman said he does and have broken many mint and proof sets apart dating as far back as early 50's when proof sets were in celephane like mint sets are today. I like the Dansco album myself and see no reason if you want to put the coins in them that you shouldn't do so

Like others I see no problem with breaking them out and I use dansco and am very happy with there albums.

I do it all the time as well, especially when the set contains 2 or 3 coins that I need to fill holes in different albums.

I do the same thing, only I don't crack the coins out myself. I buy the individual proofs from my coin dealer.

Is that why on ebay I see some coins missing from proof sets? People are cracking them open? If so, what's to say that people are exchanging coins from sets and gluing them back? Does this happen? I was wondering about this when I saw coins missing. I know some sets have rare coins potentially in them and I was figuring some had these and took the rare coin out... so I am guessing one rare coin NOT mint (once you crack it open it's not mint now?) is worth more than in a minted set?

By the way, to Bryan315, I don't know about coins really but that's a beautiful set! I never heard of these Dansco albums but looks like they are more versatile (different coin denominations etc). Looks very nice and all your coins are in great condition. Impressive indeed to my untrained eye~

Every year I order about 15 proof and uncirc sets from the mint. Many go for presents. The rest are all broken open for albums. I always keep one set of each for myself though.

I debate this all the time but I like the 7070 and I enjoy putting coins in albums. So, I'd been keeping my best coins in safer places and use the albums to show the lesser coins. When someone takes a real interest, I can pull out the good stuff (XF to me is good stuff <g>). But, again, I enjoy putting coins in albums, filling holes and showing them off. It wouldn't be as much fun for me without albums.

Dansco's to me are the best looking albums as well as being very good quality. I will own Dansco's for all my coins eventually. Good looking coins deserve good looking albums :)

A dozen whitman folders that is. I just realized they also have whitman albums..Can you add pages to them as well? Albums are kinda pricey, I just have the folders..this is before I knew better
