Ok so pretty soon here I will be looking into buying a 1909 S Lincoln Cent. I'll probably spend around 100 dollars, so probably somewhere between G and VF. Where is a good place to buy something like this? I was looking at Harlan J Berk.com, and saw some good ones. I will be going to a coin show on November 24th, but I dont know if this would be more expensive than buying on the internet. Also, ill probably try to find a certified one because I will be getting it certified anyways. What do you think?

ebay is my one stop shop for whatever I am looking for. Just have to have a keen eye and watch for the deals and at times you can get very lucky. Ask for more pictures if the ones provided dont show enough detail for you to make a decision. Just make sure you dont let yourself get caught up in a bidding war. Make sure you decide what the auction you want is worth to you and stick to that price. When I started out on ebay I let myself get caught up in the moment in a bidding war to "beat the other person" type thing and ended up overspending on a number of purchases. Other than that just have fun and dont feel rushed to buy anything, patience will bring the coin that is exactly what your looking for to your door. Good luck! Steve

Hi Zach, ebay is a good place, just put the coin you like in the "bid watch" Mode and watch and watch and then if the price is right you make your bid in the last minute.

I'd check your local coin shops first. I have one close to me, that's my favorite guy to buy coins from. He always uses Gray sheets to price coins and usually gives me BELOW bid price. Then I haggle him for $5 more off. HEHEHEHEHE Make friends with the owner and let them know what you're looking for. My guy takes in coins everyday and I stop by 1-2 a week to see what's new. It's amazing what flows in there during just one day! Next I like a coin show. There was multiple examples of coins I wanted at the one and only coin show I attended. If it's a good show, you'll have your pick of several. ebay, it's the last resort for me normally. I know every coin shop in the greater Cincinnati area now. Surprizingly, this is a huge city that I've run dry for the coins I need. If I want them, it's off to ebay because I can usually find what I need there. -Personal Opinion- Sorry for the windy sidebar. LOL ebay is full of coins I think were body bagged for grading or didn't get a high enough grade for the seller/dealer. I think there's a lot of dealers searching for the holy grail grades (almighty dollar) and then rejecting the "junk" by selling it on ebay. Of course I'm not saying everyone, but it seems obvious to me.

Well, I am not an expert in grading and spotting counterfeit; so, my best bet is my local coin shop - reason: 1) I know the owner now and he's the expert in copper coins. 2) I think I trust my coin dealer in offer me a fair deal 3) He won't cheat/lie/fake about the coins I buy, because he want my business. I told him I will try to build a Lincoln Album and he said I'll help me do it.... If he want my few thousand dollars in the next 2 years or so, I don't think he will do anything to loose my trust. 4) The guy had been around in the area for around 30 years ebay, on the other hand, doesn't have any of the above mention reason. However, you may find a great bargain IF YOU KNOW YOUR STUFF WELL A DO EVERYTHING RIGHT (just like other mentioned)! Just some thought.

Im like you bruce, I'm not an expert in grading, Counterfeit Detection or cleaning, so I like my coin shop the most. My dealer is friendly, and he gives me discounts because I'm young.
