Saw this on ebay today. It's an "authentic denarius from the UK" being sold by our old friend saxby.
But hey at least your shipping is insured

Here is the link- http://www.ebay.com/itm/c-100-B-C-B...em20f8187416

Sad to see six people have already started bidding on this worthless trash

AM or others, is it even plausible that a Republic coin from 100 B.C. would be found in Britain? I don't know enough about ancient trade routes, but that mint date predates Caesar's expedition by 45 years. I recall vaguely that Britain was a source of trade for tin, so perhaps it's possible that some pre-Caesar coins made it up to the island?

Coins of the Roman Republic circulated until around the time of Emperor Trajan ( I believe he recalled them to be melted down or something of that sorts) . The debased ones ( ex-Mark Antony legionary denarii) are recorded to have showed up in change during the rule of Alexander Severus in the 220s CE. So yes, they could have well circulated in Britian. This one I suppose traveled from shanghai to the UK much later though

That longevity for circulating coins is pretty impressive. Maybe in 2100 years this coin will be worth something. Thanks for the answer.
