briliant, but still uncirculated?

I'm going through some of my extra rolls and found a roll which has started to tone (evenly) a light brown so it is no longer "brilliant."

It is still uncirculated, so what do you call BU rolls that have lost their original color?

On another roll I found the coins have small black carbon spots. Is there anything I can do about them? Distilled water, acetone or ?

The spots is on what coin? If you want to see some results I had with acetone, look a few threads down. I have a bunch of different types of coins that are going to get a bath in acetone (Copper, nickel, silver, and possibly gold). Right now, I've only posted two results and there's really no write up but I'm going to be done with finials in a week so, I'll have more time to work on it. Tell me the type of coin, and I'll see if I have one and I'll do a test on it. Or another forum member who actually tried could tell you if the spots come off or not.

Hi commandD

The coins are still uncirculated even as they turn brown ,, there are threee distinct color descriptors for lincoln cents ,, Red -100% to 96% of the Full mint bloom is present on the coin ,, Red Brown - a coin that has from 95 % to 5% of its original color remaining ,, Brown - a coin with less than 5% of its original mint luster remaining there are several shades of brown ,,but brown is still brown no matter the shade.

the black spots on the lincolns are there to stay ,,I know of no treatment to remove them and have never seen any successfully treated to remove them .

another thing, a Uncirculated coin is still uncirculated no matter how many gouges or marks or how much graffiti it has it just changes to MS(BU) details because it is still a uncirculated coin no matter what has happened to it. This is where I kept getting tripped up on grading coins, if it is Uncirculated it can grade no less than MS-60 details. This is atleast my understanding and like I said this is what keeps tripping me up when grading. But if I am wrong I am sure someone will set me straight

Yep, impossible to remove with altering the coin.

I think that's dead-on. It took me awhile to learn that, but that's how I've been told. I have a lot of Lincolns that I originally graded AU because they were brown. Then a pro on Lincolns schooled me grading them. He was giving my AU's MS grades....I was like WOW! THANK YOU! LOL
