Need some help with the ID of this coin. If you have knowledge of grade/value feel free to discuss, or I can post in grading section once it is definitively IDed. Thanks, HABIB Edited by halfabustisbetter 11/08/2007 11:05 pm

the year on it is 22 which means it is 1933. I think it is this one http://(131231) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed /countries/coin.php?image=nmc2/42-345&desc=Chinese%20Empire/Republic%20y345%201%20Dollar%20(1933-1934)

Yep, it's supposed to be a Chinese "junk dollar" - that's "junk" as in Chinese ship. Unfortunately, yours is fake. They're supposed to be made of silver.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

I guess I should have mentioned that I am as reasonably sure as I can be that it is not a fake--if it is a fake I can't imagine why a counterfeiter would not try to imitate the original metal of the coin.
I am pretty sure it is a pattern and I remember seeing pattern listings in Krause, but I borrow my Krause from the library and I don't have it at the moment. As I recall, the Chinese patterns are listed at the end of the coin section with a prefix like "Pt" or "Pn" or "Pr" (but probably not "Pr" because that could be confused with 'proof.') I don't recall whether or not values or mintages are included.
Heritage lists a couple of other copper patterns, the closest one in size I found was a Kansu 5 Fen of 1928 that sold last year. I haven't checked Teletrade yet, but if someone out there could check their Krause I would appreciate it. Thanks--HABIB
UPDATE: I'm pretty sure the listing will be Pn as that is how the slabbed coins are listed, and there was nothing on Teletrade except the silver version. Thanks

Krause lists two pattern #'s for this coin in copper: PN138 ND22, for 1933 PN139 ND23, for 1934 No value given.

Thank you for that!
Now I guess I'll have to keep looking for valuation information...
I would hate to get it certified if the lack of value information means there's no value, so if anybody runs across anything like this in their numismatic journey please try to keep a mental sticky to post it here please!

I have a counterfeit pattern, off-metal 2 Kruezer from Baden. I don't see why they wouldn't be counterfeited, patterns are usually quite valuable.

Yes, you're right, anything can be counterfeit. I'm still looking for information about this particular coin, if you have any I'd appreciate it.

I do not know much about patterns, such as if they use the same dies to make coins but in different metals.
I am comparing this to my 1934 dollar coin and the rear mast rigging looks crudely made. The waves and the hull looks awkward to me, probably it looks to be carved with a knife on the die so it looks more "detailed."
