From all of us from the "downunder darkside", we feel deeply for all that have been affected by the destruction brought about by the hurricane and the unnecessay civil unrest that followed.

From half a world away, you will all be in our prayers.
Rest in Peace

This is a very tragic event, for not only the one's affected directly. But all american's. Many of us devote our live's to preserving our way of life. And somehow think because we are American's that bad thing's don't ever happen to us. And if they do. Then of course our our patriotism, and our tax $, will have purchased relief, and help in a time of need. I am ashamed of our leadership for waiting until the media, had to point out the lack of interest, and relief in this time of need.
I am also ashamed of them for letting the oil industry take advantage of us. Many good citizen's would be happy to do more donation wise. But everyone is worried about the gas price's and the impact it will have on the day to day item's.
I dread seeing the insurance company's tell most of these people. That although they paid their policy. They will not receive what is due without a fight. There is no doubt it will happen, and no doubt , that our leadership will allow them to do it.
I am usually a supporter of our nation's leadership. Because I believe in it's citizen's , no matter who is in charge. But we are in a very strange time. I wonder if we can endure the damage that has been done. I wonder should american's be withdrawing their saving's and investing in more tangible asset's(i.e gold, or platinum.) thing's that have global value. I have thousand's of banknote's from bankrupt and overrun nation's. All of them together can be considered worthless. I am hoping it's not quite this serious, however I must say. Our leadership has brought our nation to it's knee's. They have lied to us, and sent us into war's that has crippled our credibilty on a global scale. Now with disaster on our hand's. American's have a good deal to worry about. Sorry for the long message but. Maybe it's time to start collecting only precious metal item's. You never know what could happen. I would not want to be left with my life saving's adding up to no purchasing power. This is just something I thought I would share with you fine folk's. Beacause you have the advantage when it come's to purchacing precious metal's. You already know how it's done.

Americans are a very resilent people. Americans mobilize and begin helping each other long before the wheels of governmental response begin to turn. However, once our government works out the logistics, the response is awesome. Not only will we recover from this, but we will be stronger and smarter.

I hesitate to respond to threads that have drifted towards politics because of the volatiity of the subject, and really hope we can get back on topic. So, in that vein it is just an opinion, and not shared by all! America is really about its people. I think this Forum has a good representation of what applies to peoples in most of the world. We are all struggling to reach many of the same basic goals and being connected this way to people all over the world, I learn we are more alike than different! Many, many Nations are coming to our aid in our hour of need and I am grateful for that.

I hope the people of America cast their votes to elect Politicians in the future that will work towards the restoration of what this Republic was designed to be. God Bless America in finding the wisdom to make decisions that benefit all peoples. We're not perfect, but I'm thankful to be here. Mike

There are people taking in people but most are not locals as the damage is major for miles and miles. The storm was tremendous for well over one hundred miles inland and many a city was devastated. Kind of ironic that New Orleans is getting all the attention when the night before the levees broke they were bragging about dodging another bullet as the force of the hurricane missed them again. The next morning brought terrible news concerning New Orleans and the media so concentrated on that story I don't believe they even realized at that time that Mississippi got the brunt of the storm and how far inland it went in both Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. The whole panhandle bore the brunt of it for miles and miles. We had a local news crew 40 miles north of N.O. and it was amazing what they went through and photograhed there. Will take a long time to get over this one.

There was an old black woman known only as Miss Vera who died in the hurricane. The people in the neighborhood just couldn't stand to see her like that and gave her their own funeral in a make shift grave. They said that Miss Vera deserved some dignity.

I think New Orleans is done. They'll rebuild it, I'm sure, but it won't be "New Orleans." Especially if another city picks up and can pull off a Mardi Gras.
