I am looking to buy the set..Seller wants $7,700.00 for all of it, I am looking to resell to make some $, or may keep as an investment. Here are the photos of each coin. I put guessed grades based off photograde since I don't buy gold coins. The 1st two coins aren't great but the rest are good clarity wise...

1873 $20 gold is cleaned, the 1881-S $5 also looks cleaned to me.

Overall nice set.

Either the 1854 is circulated or it might be a strike through error. And the 1874 $3 coin looks to be a light strike on the back.

The 1851 $1 looks like it could be ungradeable to me. Slight hole punched by the R in Dollar...could present problems if you tried to get it slabbed.

The 1882 $10 and 1885-S $5 don't have the proper luster that I think they should in areas, and so I'm leaning towards cleaned on them also. Could just be bad lighting, though.

So in all your opinions is it worth spending the 7,700.00 bucks on it to either sell for a quick profit or to keep? I normally deal in silver, this is the first time I am considering buying gold. This is my fathers $, because he wants to diversify assets and I am trying to convince him to buy. Any thoughts?

I'm seeing about $4500 in gold there if my calculations are correct. The sub-$5 denominated pieces bring large premiums to melt if genuine and undamaged so assuming all are genuine then $7,000 sounds fair but not cheap. I would want top tier encapsulated, problem-free pieces to pay that kind of money. I did not check every date/mm combo and am assuming none are key dates. Good luck!

The only MS coin I see is the 1911-D $20. All others are circ., EF and AU.

At $7700, I think you would have a hard time getting your money back on these at this time.
