I have been following the thread that was recently posted regarding the seller, Canadian Coin Collector and bidder 3/4 on some Landon coins that I ended up winning on his listing. I sent my concerns to him and noted the suspicions I had re a possible shill that took place etc I was offered a $40 refund that I refused and before I went too far with it thought he should refund me more than that but it got crazy with replies/denials and accusations from him with me being the bad guy here. I haven't contacted ebay yet and not sure if I should considering they haven't done anything about this seller in the past and I really do not have proof he did a shill game on me, plus I just received the 4 Landon cents and am not confident in returning them to him for fear he may say he didn't get them; if he is crooked why wouldn't he? I would like to keep the coins but the thought I was shilled leaves me with a bad taste.

If you're not happy with the coins or not confident in their representations, then file a buyer protection claim and send them back with tracking (to validate he does in fact receive them).

My advice is to keep the coins you bought (it sounds like you do like them), and just put this guy on your "do not buy" list in the future, take the $40 refund that is offered, and walk away. You have done everything you could, with warning all of us here.

Sometimes these pills are difficult to swallow, but you learned a valuable lesson here, and trying to get more out of this would probably result in costing you more money (i.e., return postage with tracking) and definitely result in wasting a lot more of your time...

Thanks SPP

I think that's the way I will proceed and now more aware of this type of stuff than ever- I'll exercise more caution in the future, its like a minefield. I have comfort knowing that not all sellers are like this and have been fortunate in my dealings with those I have made purchases from over the years.

Thanks for posting this information. I just read the Landon Cents thread you referred to regarding this matter. I will definitely not be making any purchases from this seller.

@Quaatchi

Its really too bad the hobby has some dark alleys to manoeuver with fakes and the odd seller that plays the shill game. A lesson for us less knowledgeable in these matters for sure. I am consoled with the coins being from Landon collection but that is not the way I wanted them. I will be wary from henceforth.

True enough, the dark alleys of our hobby can be discouraging. We need to protect ourselves and each other by speaking up when we come across issues such as this. That way we can make sure these con artists don't get any of our business.
