Photograde, whatever the newest edition is. 19th I think. I got this book after having collected for a while and wish I would have picked it up earlier. With that said the most important thing is practice. You can do a good bit of it here in the Grading practice section. Good Luck!

the problem with Photograde is the photos. they are gray scale images that I don't think show enough detail to show whata borderline coin should grade. the images are small and above AU the book is vague. granted it will help to separate the VG from the XF.

i have Photograde and the ANA Grading Standards books. both are the latest editions and both leave me wanting more detailed photos. in this day of high quality printing and digital imaging, I can't understand why these books lack higher resolution images that really show the coins. maybe it has something to do with grading being both a science and a black art :)

I have a Photograde and the PCGS grading book. I like the Photograde best. But, I think the pictures in Photograde could be better quality. With the exacting standards in grading I don't think there is currently a good book. It would be nice to have a book with pictures as good as the ones made by CC members.
