Went down to Alabama/Florida last week on vacation. Unfortunately, it rained 4 of the 7 days we were there. I took this as a sign from God that He wanted me to go coin shopping since I took a month off! After an extensive Google mapping session, I charted 12 shops in a 60 mile radius to visit during a two day period. The bounty was plentiful in the Panhandle. I was able to find 12 Full Steppers and 6 upgrade Jefferson nickels for my Dansco 8113! I also picked up a really beautiful Green and Gold Toned PL 1881S Morgan, it's PCGS graded MS64. I realize it's nothing that special but it is truly stunning in hand and I got it because I liked it. As most of you know, I am a sucker for really nice RAW coinage. During my two day quest, I found a really nice example of the 19th Century Barber half dollar. I truly wanted to get a Proof version of this coin but for now this MS6X will fit in nicely my Mint State/Proof Dansco 7070 until I find the Proof. 1898 Barber half dollar - Looks Mint State to me. Additionally, I am finalizing a deal to upgrade my current 1859 Seated Liberty half dollar: With this 1864S Seated Liberty half dollar: I will be getting my NGC MS63 1878S 20 Cent Piece on Friday and will post pictures of it as soon as I can. that barber half is amazing as is all the other coins. I don't know much about Barbers but don't they call that the 1st reverse when the eagles wing is over the "E" in UNITED? I will go ahead and email you my address so you can just forward that 20 cent piece to me so you won't be burdened with having to crack open that NGC slab

WOW...love that Barber half. I need one of those for the 7070 but I'm sure it won't look that nice. The Seated Liberty halves are also very nice.

WOW, nice Seated halves. Any special reason for replacing the 1859? It's a beautiful piece.

I don't know either, perhaps someone can enlighten us! quote: I will go ahead and email you my address so you can just forward that 20 cent piece to me so you won't be burdened with having to crack open that NGC slab
Bryan, I waited over 12 hours for your email with your address so I guess I'll take that as you weren't serious therefore I won't be sending it to you. quote: Any special reason for replacing the 1859? It's a beautiful piece.
I plan on putting the 1859 in my AU/MS Dansco 7070 and the new one in my MS/PR Dansco 7070 until I can get a proof. It's one of things I can't help but keep upgrading my 7070s, that's why I am going to put up a "VF or Better" Type set up for sale/trade here in the next day or so as soon as I get all the pictures together.

you have allot more guts than I have (and evidentially allot more money) because I was wanting to put together a Proof/Pattern 7070 but know if I ever start that project I have to move in with one of you to support my coin habbit

Ah, Patterns...I think I'd like to have atleast one 19th Century pattern coin. I have just acquired too many coins over the last year, per my wife, for my Dansco and decided that I needed a book to put the ones I am totally happy with in...so my VF Collection evolved into an AU/MS collection and finally into a MS/PR collection which I may never complete but hey the few I have sure are pretty!

Well bad news...I went over to the coin shop to pick up my NGC MS63 20 Cent piece today. I walked in and the dude told me he sold it after I put a $250 cash deposit on it because "I didn't think you wanted it since you haven't been in, in two months". I told him that he had written on the card I had in my hand I had to pay the balance by 11/10 and today was 11/09! Plus he had my phone number...he claimed he had a different date on his envelope. What the Heck?!? So there I stood for $850 in cash in my hand with my jaw on the floor. I was stunned. Apparently he sold it to a buddy...I don't know how I feel about this shop now. He was wanting to get on the phone and find me another one in as good as or better condition. I was like don't bother they are plentiful on Heritage and ebay. So I guess I can find something else to spend my $1100 on any suggestions? Maybe I'll just save it for that Pattern coin I am wanting...who knows I am just ticked right now!

Well I have looked at a few Barbers (including the one I have in my 7070) and if this is the case then most of them are type 1's. I think I got the information from a ebay auction and you know how creditable that info can be, probably someone trying to make their coin seem more desirable than it actually was

Finally was able to find a decent SBA for my 7070. It's the Proof 1979 Type 2 version.
