I actually forgot about this one.
Back two months ago I found myself in the very unaccustomed position of wanting my Paypal funds disappear ..... fast !
(Before those swines decided to help themselves)

I paid a visit to Antonio (Lucernae) and made a few 'Best Offer' bids and he was kind enough to relieve me of the funds which were causing me such distress. Very kind he is .....

Wow! Talk about a throwback to old times. Very nice FR! That is a superb coin.
Is there any reason why Aurelian started minting Sestertii and Denarii in the 270's?

After 75 years of advertising of FORTVNA REDVX Aurelian appears to have tried to make it happen. The experiment was doomed from the start. All that junk coinage of the 3rd century made the new issues vanish as soon as they were circulated. Postumus had the same problem.
The attempt failed miserably.

Nice to see the return of the denarius even from just a short time. Nice coin.

Antonio has some great stuff. It just takes a while to get the item it took over a month for me. The coins are always better in hand and they all have a certain good style quality to them. Great choice I would welcome that in my collection.

Correct me if I am wrong FR but didn't Diocletian have the same problem ? That is why Folli and Argenteuii are in such nice condition.

The reformation undertaken by Diocletian would seem to have had an accompanied recall of all the old coinage. The effort was not entirely unsuccessful. The reform was undertaken in AD294 and the follis was still up to standard at the time of the abdication in AD305. Of course it began a ten year decline soon after but the chaos of the period with too many emperors fighting it out most likely created the conditions for the reductions.
Aurelian would seem to have simply attempted to re-introduce a coinage type which people were no doubt already hoarding. The attempt would have been doomed from the get go. the effort did not last long.

I remember reading tho that Diocletion did not remove enough of the debased radiants for the reform to take great effect. I will see if I can find the link.
Thanks FR!
