This seller always has many "DMPL" coins for sale.

Someone on another forum purchased one of these coins, and it wasn't even close to what was shown in the pictures.

I found the post. Here's what the buyer said:

"I fell victim to this dude, thinking I was gonna receive thick frosty contrasting devices and black mirrors. What I received was a typical, baggy, non-contrasting Morgan. He assured me the images didn't do it justice. I took a shot, should have returned it. It's PL but it's no DMPL with 12+ inch mirrors. His method of imaging over exaggerates the coins appearance big-time. I kept it as a reminder, that things on ebay can be deceptive."

I seem to recall another member of this forum having a good bit advice on sellers like these that it should always be a huge red flag when all of a seller's coins look nearly the same like that.

It's nothing more than juiced up photography.

You're still being fooled. The coin pictured in this thread is every bit what was shown in the seller's pics, and I wouldn't be surprised if the 1883-CC is PL.

Look closer at the seller's images. His "reflection" images only show about 2" of reflectivity. That doesn't even make PL, much less DMPL. And all the bad marks on the example coin here are visible in the "black and white" images.

The only reason for deception here - even if it's what he intends - is that the perspective buyer hasn't learned to evaluate coin images. For those marks to be so visible under the chin and eagle's right wing, they are bad. The 1883 is plainly baggy. Don't know what he was thinking.

Yes, this guy is a ripoff artist, but his scam isn't difficult.

I've been anxiously awaiting someone's results from one of these auctions and it's exactly as I expected it would be. Raw DMPL Morgans from ebay? No way.
The amazing thing is this seller has a 100% feedback rating...

He probably calls people who leave negative feedback and bribes or browbeats them into retracting it. I've seen it happen ligitimatly so why not a scammer?

He has a few others which look like they lost a cat fight as well, when you look close.

When the coin has some frost and reflectivity to begin with, you can really enhance the look by using - for instance - a circular fluorescent kitchen bulb with the camera poked through the center. That really nails the "black and white" thing, as probably would other types of ringlights. He has another image type which looks like it was shot in a large light box or maybe a brightly lit room - I duplicated that look once bouncing about 400w worth of floods onto the walls of the second bathroom.

This guy is juicing images as hard as possible, and hiding behind "subjective evaluation." ebay isn't stopping counterfeiters, much less charlatans.

All the same, I'd like to get one of his coins under my own lenses, to see just what's being stretched where.
