Oops deleted original thread by accident... I'm gonna send this one off to VSS soon but wanted some opinions first. She's got A LOT going on... 1)- She is slabbed as a minor die filled rev. obviously; but 2)- is that an error between the date too? A laminatatIon or other planchet error? And 3)- is she a spikes or ears over date VAM?... what say you, lords if tiny metal things

I don't think there's enough meat left on the 8 for the "Spikes" overdate, and the reverse is too worn to catch the killer pickup for the "Ears" overdate. To my mind, there should be more metal left on the 8 for VAM-8, as well. I've seen that planchet effect on Morgans before, but I don't know whether it should be called "lamination" or not. Unsure what the name is but it's real.

Ya dave, my thoughts exactly about meat on the wing for the ears. I'll send it to messy with the gator eye and some others just to see what he says in hand... also, is that lamination or whatever considered an error? Do tpgs slab coins as "double error" or just pick one? (If the "lam" is considered an error)

That's a not-inconceivable effect from acid or the environment, but the planchet itself would have had to be ready to cooperate, so to speak. I can't see good alloy shredding like that.

And yeah, usually only one error per label because it gets crowded. Bigtime errors would get more print space.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but PCGS considers lamination errors as "defects" or damage and give a "details" assessment. Happened to me with an 1847 Hawaiian Cent - came back AU (Details) Lamination Error. PG

Good point, paleoguy. PCGS won't even slab a peeling lamination, and larger laminations are considered Details coins. PVC and peeling laminations are PCGS' only two bodybags for genuine coins now. I think they don't want a scrap peeling loose and scratching the coin.
