Hello. I would like grades and opinions on this Post Colonial Large Cent. Yeah, I know it's scratched but I got a great deal on it and I couldn't pass it up. By the way the variety is Ryder 2a-b. It's also known as the "Horned Eagle" variety for the die chip on the eagle's head. Thank You.

Yeah my app just updated a week or 2 ago and it has these on it now. I say f15. Good color too. And from the Whitman/Bowers encyclopedia: "This obverse sometimes has been called 2a in combination with reverse F and 2b (slightly repunched)." Reverse: "Horned eagle break over head. The 1 is upright." "Lowest left leaf opposite left upright of M. Arrows close to S." The Massachusetts copper coins were well received in the channels of commerce, and saw active circulation for several decades following their issue. These copper coins represent the first appearance of the word "cent" on a coin made within the United States. Among all copper coins issued by different states during the 1780s, the Massachusetts pieces were the best struck, and the most uniform weight.

Nice coin in spite of the defects. VF20 for detail, and nice even planchet colour. I think I would have bought it too.
