Guess I have some research to do. Not really up on what to look for, but have spent some time checking the old threads for info. Let's see if I can find a treasure or 2.

Wish me luck and feel free to toss me any suggestions.

wait, did you get 72 ikes or did you get ikes from 1972? If you got 1972 ikes, check them for type 1, 2, and 3. A very good video explaning the differences can be found here:

Nice pick up!

Every time I ask at the bank for Ike's they say the Don't have, can't get them.

Great question. 72 coins, various years. Did see some real nice looking ones upon first glance. No silver, but I'll be looking a lot closer tonight.

I happen to have 3 ikes in my collection, all '72s. Seems to be only type 1, but I'll probably check closer tomorrow.

It is always fun to get a nice group of Ike's to look through.

Let's us know what you find.

Pictures are always good

I gave a '72 type 3 Ike. Thanks for the video ChildOfTheWheat cleared up the question I had.

Well, looks like no homeruns in this group but it was fun and very educational. Now, I feel rather comfortable checking Ikes on the fly...well, more comfortable than before. I'll try to get a pick up of the group, but if you'd like a breakdown:

8 - 1971-d
3 - 1971-p
13 - 1972-d
11 - 1972-p type 1
5 - 1972-p type 3
3 - 1974-d
1 - 1974-p
14 - 1976-d
2 - 1976-p
6 - 1977-d
3 - 1977-p
3 - 1978-d

Now, if I can find someone locally who's willing to pay over face for them.

Do you have an Album for Ike's? If not, start one.

Or are they not in good shape?

I don't have an album for them yet. But I certainly did keep the real nice looking ones aside.

There's also two types of 1976 Ikes. The reverse USA and ONE DOLLAR lettering is thick and cartoon-ish on the Type 1s, while thinner with small serifs on the type 2.
