Don't think so. Looks like split plaiting which can give the appearance of doubling.

I can see the die has a lot of wear, but I'm not seeing reduced devices.

Not a Error,other then the Zinc Cents Break Down way to fast.

How Split Plating can happen is the force is to strong for the plating when the coinage is struck for Zinc Cents. Cooper is better at explaining SP then I.

Yes,that is how I weed them out from a RPM,but you can have a RPM with SP.

understood I figured it happened when struck thus the doubling. you knew it was split plating because of color difference?

I read it, pete2226, so it is an error. the copper stretched too thin and separated. the main error in my opinion is the zinc, not being hard enough. it didn't occur with the copper pennies. that's why zinc rhymes with stink. thanks for the link.

The strike broke the plating. Thus now it is deteriorating. Happens a lot even on RPMs.
