Ok, so I was looking at this one and the E of STATES looks wrong, almost sunk below the other letters. Then under my loop I notice that the T & S have strong doubling on tops which may account for the E looking off?... So what do u think about that area?... Now to VAM, which one? Is that doubling a pickup? Also, I see NO die cracks ANYWHERE if it helps... let me know if u need close pics on any areas. Thanks

Looks like Machine Doubling to me not a doubled die. Not a VAM sorry.

Yeah, I think it's a press sneeze. Look at the differing color of the toning right where the doubling exists - the metal has a different character, caused by the stutter-strike, which caused it to tone in a different pattern than the surrounding area.

I'm more interested in the rim crumbling at 5:00 obverse and what looks like a die crack above the AT in STATES.

Man, I didn't even notice the rim dave what's the deal with that and YES there is a crack from the denticles above middle of ST down to the A tip then stright-on to the left T tip then up. Also from right top T to top corner of E and right top of E to top S (with what looks like a small die chip in the crack just past the A)

Rim crumbling is relatively common on 1921's since they pushed production so hard, and not unusual to see it here. It may or may not be a known late die state of an identified VAM. With the other evidence, I'm working on that.
