I just have a question about a dime I recently purchased. It looks like it has a 15degree rotated reverse (or thereabouts.) Is this a known variety? I've looked into it and can't find any solid evidence. I know you like pictures but it wouldn't necessarily show since you can place the coin however you want in the picture. It looks off from my other Barber dimes too. The coin in question is a 1911D. Thanks for any help.

SpaceMaNy0 this is not a variety it is more like a manufacturing error. The dies were rotated in the press and this rotation is within the mint tolerance and it is fairly common. Only rotations 25 degrees and greater bring premiums. The more rotated the more valuable.

Aren't 'manufacturing errors' the varieties though? I understand mine might be within tolerance but I see coins at shows with the same (or even less) rotation labeled as errors and selling for $10-20 per dime.

Well, the fact that they're being offered at that price doesn't mean they actually sell. And if they sell, it doesn't mean the buyer has a clear picture of the coin's value. Rotated dies happen with every single issue of coin. Certain types and dates are scarcer than others, but they're so common across the board that it can be generalized a minimum rotation of 90 degrees is required to add value. I know I won't consider a premium below that point.

The 1905-O Dime comes with a large mint mark and a small mint mark. A die was engraved with an "O" meant
for a quarter. It is a variety. Varieties are part of the die before the manufacturing process begins.
Manufacturing errors are not varieties. Rather, they are defects.
The premiums attached to manufacturing errors are dictated by the demand of the collectors.
eagle_eye_18's use of the term 'tolerance' is important to understand.

Ok I get it now. I didn't pay too much for the coin, and I like Barber's anyway so it's just one for the collection.
