I brought this in to my local coin shop to have it looked over. The pictures don't do it justice, it has full pinwheel luster and very few bag marks. Initially he gave it an MS but felt the die was worn. He weighed it to make sure it wasn't a knock off. He felt the details on the face and crown were very odd. The next time I went in, he asked me to bring the coin in again because he had thought about the coin a few times since I was in last. Upon further inspection he reluctantly said AU 55 but cleaned. He was also interested in how the former owner cleaned it and wanted me to find out if I could. He told me to bring it back once I've sent it to ICCS.

What do you think?

would you be able to provide more pictures?

From what I see, I think it's been dipped... not sure though so i'll leave it to the more knowledgeable.

As for grade, AU 55 or 58 would sound about right. But if cleaned, I'mnot sure how ICCS would grade it. Maybe a net grade lower than that (like AU50)

Too much light on the coin to be able to grade.

Less light and perfect overhead shots.

The jewels in the crown look weakly struck, I think the coin is AU but the luster is that of an MS. Looks like doubling on the 9?

The more I look at it, the more I think it's a fake. I've got a lower grade 1911 I've been comparing it to and I see many inconsistencies, especially in the lettering and date. Does anybody have a higher grade 1911 that they can post a picture of?

I will try to post a better pictures of both of my coins if I can.
