I noticed this coin was being watched. Maybe some of you have seen it. Well, I got it. It's a common date but is an uncommonly beatiful coin (IMO). No need for alarm, I have not suddenly learned how to make my digital camera take good pics of coins; these are seller's pics from ebay. They're pretty big and pretty clear. So what do you think? The toning on the reverse looks questionable. Who was the seller?
Grade looks 63/64, but the TPGs might bodybag or net grade it for AT. Looks cool anyway!!

My initial feeling is that this coin toned in an album, which would explain why the reverse and obverse are toned differently. It's difficult to grade since these pics appear to be scans that don't show luster. My initial feeling is MS63 unless the luster is broken. There is an area in the obverse left field where I think it may be broken. If it is, I'd grade it as MS62.

It looks to me like the coin is somehow wrapped in a piece of plastic like Saran Wrap, or if Susan's right it may be the plastic cover in an album, which might explain the odd patch of white under the eagle's right wing (from eagle's perspective), which could make it a reflection. I bought the coin because of the toning. Before I bidded, I also had doubts about the toning and was going back and forth in my mind about it, and I decided to go for it. Anyway, I didn't buy it to sell. The seller was "vette1986" who has had a fair amount of negative feedback in the last year, but none for selling counterfeit or doctored coins. Thanks. Stephen

I have looked at a number of this seller's auctions in the past. They have some negative/neutral comments left as positive feedback. They also sell "unsearched" lots which I feel is misleading advertising. For the most part, they seem to be okay, but I think some smaller purchases fall between the cracks and they're not as responsive as they should be. Their single coins are probably okay. At least they have decent pictures to work with.

That seller is no saint, but there are much worse ones out there. I bought one coin from them and the tranasction was OK. He then started spamming me with e-mails, which is somewhat annoying.
There are some sellers who sell a lot of horribly AT'd Morgans, but "vette" is not one of them, so the coin may be NT after all. It probably looks better in hand than the auction photo. The seller has a 7-day return privilege as well.

I like the toning on the rev. It's neat how they do that.

For what its worth. The obverse show that the coin was improperly dipped at one time. The slight gold tone around the instruments is a dead giveaway. The reverse toning is caused from laying against a piece of cloth or sponge for an extended period of time. The type of sponge found in those little, plastic, snap-lock display holders.
If I were to guess the person had a toned coin that wasn't selling. Usually an end of roll coin. They tried to dip it and faild to do it correctly. They didn't notice it right away and placed it in a snap lock holder. This trapped the mositure and chemical on the revers side of the coin. The obverse began to react to the bad dipping and the liquid that was heavest against the instruments began to turn yellow.

Thanks Catman (and everyone else who posted). The coin has bigger problems than being AT'd. But, for what it's worth, this seller's alright in my book: The coin arrived yesterday. If you look at the photo of the reverse that I posted with my first message, you can see a large white mark below the eagle's right wing. I thought it was a reflection or a flash. It's a mark. It looks like someone used some kind of stylus (sp?), perhaps in an aborted effort to clean it. I notified the seller and he quickly and cheerfully promised to give me a complete refund.
Ciao for now. Stephen
