this is my most recent silver dollar purchase. I would appreciate opinions on value, rarity and any comments or other thoughts you may have. I just had to have it because I thought the price was fair and because it is a prooflike example. 111624827760Feel free to call me Will.

Nice, a strike-through error. I wonder why ICCS calls this a planchet flaw? The planchet was not flawed, but something got between it, and the dies...

yes that was my belief too but thanks for verifying it 100%, either way I am happy with it. quick question for spp since you deal with PCGS or who ever can answer it...why is it that every pcgs certified planchet flaw error I've seen on the bay has a details grade? is it just a coincidence or do they call it a details coin because it has affected the struck surface?

that's a pretty coin SPP, thanks for the clarification. do you think once in my possession it should go in to a hard slab from cccs or a U.S. TPG?

I always notice the left side northern light lines go through the C in CANADA in the PL 1963 and the few years before. They do on that one as well. Great error coin Dollarman, great addition to your collection of dollars.

im glad you brought up the ray through C, I remember the first time I saw it and said what? then I read the Charlton and it only made sense that it was done during the re defining of the hubs devices which was in I believe 1960?

Quote:do you think once in my possession it should go in to a hard slab from cccs or a U.S. TPG? The best way to answer that question, is to ask yourself, is it worth it? Think of what you paid for that coin, is it really worth the extra cost of a US TPG error certification? That will set you back CAN$75 or more. If your intent is to sell the coin at some point in the future, then you won't get your money back. I have my own reasons for putting my errors in PCGS holders, I focus on a collecting theme, and I like the idea of PCGS showcase sets. Some of my coins are worth it, some are not, sometimes for me, it is for a matter of completeness - whether or not I actually enhance the value of my errors is irrelevant to me. If you want to protect the coin, and go a cheaper route, then a CCCS hard slab is better than an ICCS soft flip. That will be CAN$25. If you want my opinion, unless you are going to go off the deep end with errors, and if I were in your shoes, I would cut out of the ICCS flip, and put it in a nice Lighthouse square capsule. The error needs no further validation - it speaks for itself. It is a proof-like coin, so the grade anywhere from PL-64 to PL-66 is to be expected, you don't need a TPG to tell you that.
