I was going through my photo bucket account and found this interesting article I'd thought I would share.

I'm not quite sure, I think just before the series began.

As much as I like Teddy Roosevelt (bought his Coin and Chronicles set in 2013), I would have preferred a return to Liberty starting with the ATB series. They can still change it for Round 2, but that would prevent a Washington Bicentennial - Washington quarter Centennial issue.

Bring back the Laura Fraser design as intended from 1932. THAT would be justice for an under appreciated sculptor/medallic artist.

Let's just bring back the Eagle design (32-98 or whatever it was). Basic but a nice design.

Yes, I agree! I have really tried getting into these ATB coins but that low relief is just terrible. I liked the "spaghetti" type hair found on the statehood series.

For some reason, with the lower relief, I seem to be having a hard time finding specimens from circulation that don't have portions of the tippy-top layer of metal scratched off on parts of Washington's bust. And they're very noticeable. The rest of the coin is kind of a dull gray, but the scratches change from black to blast white as I move the coin around. Literally 95% of the ATB's I've found around me are like that. Sure, I don't find thousands in circulation, but out of a couple hundred, that'd be around the percentage.

I'm not sure what's going on. I swear they changed the finish slightly between the series and the finish now has a propensity to be easily scratched off.

I like the ATB Quarters much better than the State Quarters. The designs are more uniform and they finally got rid of Washington's spaghetti hair!
