on the 1965 nickel it list two coins the small beads & the large beads. On the 1965 that I have I can see no beads are the beads around the neck or some were else ?
The "A" in REGINA will point to a bead if it's the large bead variety, and will point in between two beads for the small bead variety. That's probably the easiest way to tell the difference.
According to the Charlton catalogue the large beads variety has the jewel at the back of the Queen's crown detached. For the small beads the jewel remains attached. The large beads example is quite rare, getting into the thousands of dollars for MS grades.
If anyone got the latest issue of Canadian Coin News, Ken Potter, has an article in it that explains the large and small beads 5 cent, according to him, the beads on the tiara does'nt have to be detached, to be a large bead variety.
